In the year 2513, the Federation Starship Endurance (NCC-98912) is preparing to set sail for its third five-year mission of exploration in the furthest reaches of the Delta Quadrant.
A quantum anomaly causes the Endurance engines to overload soon after they depart Earth Spacedock, sending the ship hurtling across space and critically damaging her systems. Crippled beyond repair, with a large portion of the crew dead, the survivors aboard the Endurance are forced to find another way home - and may have salvation in the long-lost Starship Andromeda (NX-87162), presumed destroyed in a slipstream test over 100 years ago.
Andromeda is not as she once was - the ship itself has been heavily altered, both with alien modifications and tech that seems nearly organic. The ship also seems to be run by an AI, represented by some kind of cybernetic avatar on the bridge.
It will be up to the survivors of the Endurance to convince the reluctant AI of the ship's origins, and work with them to get home...
