During the Battle of Five Armies, Bilbo loses the One Ring in the fray. Gollum finds the Ring and flees with it to the Red Mountains. Years pass as Gollum hides in a cave in the Red Mountains, until one day an unknown band of mercenaries discovers Gollum. They leave him with grave wounds and take the Ring with them, however Gollum survives and begins to track the ring anew. While traveling in the East, the mercenaries are ambushed and slaughtered to the last man by a primitive tribe.
